Sprunger Christmas Surprise

The day after Christmas, we were able FaceTime my family for Christmas. I was so anxious to share the news, that it was hard to wait until after presents. Of course, Lara already knew I was pregnant, but she had no idea I was having twins. So, I was looking forward to her reaction when she found out.

I loved the way that Kurt causally said Katie's pregnant, so I decided to go with that approach. The gifting had ended, & I said, "By the way, I'm pregnant." Mom & dad were excited for us. I think they knew it was coming, so they weren't caught of guard, but as soon as things calmed down, I said, "And, they're twins." Lara said, "You're joking." (People must think I would joke about such things because she's not the first one to say that... KURT.) Of course, I said that it's for real & everyone started to laugh & giggle in shock. I can tell that everyone is as surprised as we were to hear the news. Their reactions were more like processing reactions. I could tell they were trying to figure out how it was possible & how different it is compared to having just one baby.

It was so much fun sharing the news yet again! I think that it being something people don't expect to hear makes it even more enjoyable to tell them :)

Cline Christmas Surprise

We decided the best time to tell our families that I'm pregnant, & we're having twins was over Christmas. We figured it would be a fun was to reveal such big news!

Our first Christmas was with the Clines. We enjoyed watching them open presents & got to do some opening of our own. Then, when we neared the end of gift time, Kurt casually drops the news. It was pretty funny to watch the reactions & the excitement. He started off by saying, "By the way, another present is Katie's pregnant." They were laughing & smiling, but had yet to hear what was to come :) Then he says, "And we'll be doubling the number of grandkids you have." Now that explanation was a little to vague, because I watched Connie's face go straight to confused. It took a while for them to be like - now wait a second... that doesn't sound right. Of course they figured it out & were like - NO WAY! (Exactly how we felt.) The shocked looks we got were priceless. I think they even asked us how that was possible :) Of course, we don't know.

The conversations finally ended with cheers & congratulations. I'm sure they'll be talking about it for the next several days. We sure were!

Parents To Be

We knew this day would come, eventually. There are still times when we're in shock over the fact that, come July, we'll be parents. It makes you nervous, yet excited to experience what God has created so perfectly.

I'm Having Twins!!

Now that I know there are two babies inside of me, how do I break the news to Kurt? I thought it would be fun to surprise him, so I ran to Jumbo to look for a gift of some sort or other. I found these small Christmas boxes that I thought would be fun to use in a picture.

I walked in the door & got the boxes out. Kurt was in the office working at the computer, so I came around the corner with the boxes in hand & said, "I'm having twins!" I'm not sure how I expected him to respond, but he definitely surprised me by saying, "That's not even funny. Don't lie to me." To this day, I still can't believe he thought I would joke about something like that, but I guess it could have been the silly smile plastered to my face to make him think that way. I was just so excited to share the news with him. I kept saying, "No, I'm serious. I'm not joking" as I was smiling. When he finally realized I was telling the truth, & he allowed the shock to sink in. He even asked me how it was possible. I was like, I have no idea. I showed him the ultrasound pictures & told him the story of my appointment. Now we were both trying to process the fact that we would have two babies in July!!

The Ultrasound Suprise

When my personal doctor scheduled a "sonographia" I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I thought it could be an ultrasound, but there was no guarantee. As the technician took me back to the room, I figured I was going to be able to see something or at least know for sure that I'm pregnant, besides taking a test. We walked into the room & there was definitely an ultrasound machine. I was a little disappointed that Kurt couldn't be there, but I didn't figure it was a huge deal. The technician set everything up & started working the machine. I'm not 100% sure, but I think his first words were, "This is interesting." My thought was, great I'm not really pregnant. What do I do now? But no, that's not where he was going at all. He then said, "There's two." Now, I have no idea what was going through my mind at that time. I think I was in shock, trying to process what he just said. Part of me was making sure I heard him right & the other part was thinking this is crazy! He then proceeded to show me how he knew there were two. We were able to listen to both heart beats & see both sacks. It was actually very interesting & amazing!!

Appointments Continue

So, my dad brought a group of guys, & Courtney Ringger, down to the Dominican to work on the land. We were so excited to have him here, but it made it difficult for me to squeeze in my blood work & ultrasound. I had to find time after preschool & before group night. The first day I went to set up an appointment for the blood work, the ladies were extremely rude. They weren't very helpful, but I did catch that I had to go to Humano to figure out my insurance first. (Of course, nothing can be done quickly or the first time. There is always a lot of driving back & forth.) I headed to Humano & got everything taken care. The front desk gave me the numbers, & I headed back to pay & set up the appointment, again. After about 1 hour or so, I got everything taken care of for the blood work. I'd be back Saturday morning because I couldn't eat anything for 8 hours. Next, I headed to the office next door & tried to get the ultrasound. I figured I wouldn't have time to do it that day, but the lady at the front didn't understand me. She had me pay & gave me a number. I waited for another hour, then went up & said I'd have to come back the following day. Well, I came back the next day at the time they said the technician would be in. Of course, he had taken a late lunch & wouldn't be back for another 1 hour. So, I waited. (There's always a lot of waiting.) I probably sat in that office for over 2 hours. Finally, the doctor was able to see me.
